Wendy-lee is a self-taught painting artist from the Netherlands. Her inspiration comes from everything within and around her. She loves to capture ambiences and to transform emotions, moods, thoughts, memories and visions into colorful imaginations, often using bright and intense color combinations and sometimes accompanied by a poem. Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human traits, emotions, or intentions to non-human entities. It is considered to be an innate tendency of human psychology. In this case it was created by nature itself. The trees having eyes makes it easier for humans to identify/conform, so with this painting i wanna bring attention to climate change and affection for nature and Earth and all wonders it has to offer us. Earth takes care of us, let us take care of Earth.

Silence Before a Storm
Title: Silence Before a Storm
Description: Standing at the traffic lights i saw some very dark clouds rolling in from a distance (turned blue in the photograph). Although the sun was still shining there was an ominous silence, the streets were empty and not a single twig or leaf on the trees moved, as if they were meditating for what was about to come .. the silence before a storm.

UPDATE: A week after painting this i ran into the (now previous) owner of the Potato King (the building on the right) and he told me that after 17 years it was sold on Oct 1 2020. I can still remember when they got there, i’ve always loved their thick fries. Im not sure what will happen to it now but we will miss them and i like how this nostalgic memory and piece of history is now captured in this painting forever

My Mom’s Favorite Statue
Title: Ba suku ba feni ba tjari
Description: My mom’s favorite statue, a Surinamese wood carving.
She keeps dropping it and after gluing it together several times i’ve decided to make a painting of it for her birthday so she can always keep it around
The name of the statue is ‘Ba suku ba feni ba tjari’, and means ‘If you search, you will find it and then you will have to carry it, so be careful’. Or, ‘whoever burns his hole must sit on the blisters’.

Under the Milkyway
Title: Under the Milkyway
Description: My midnight sky view in summer.
I love to sleep under the stars and to observe the nightsky from my balcony on hot summer nights. The Milkyway then is right over my head with constellation Cygnus the Swan clearly visible as a cross in the sky, close to Lyra the Lyre, followed by the constellations Vulpecula the Fox, Delphinus the Dolphin, Sagitta the Arrow, Aquila the Eagle, Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer and Serpens the Serpent. Every constellation has it’s own myth. I’ve painted the ones that are most visible to me from that angle.
Mars (my birthplanet) comes rising up from just above the horizon following Pluto, Saturnus and Jupiter on a path from the south to the west.

Description: An expression of thoughts.
When I started painting this I didn’t really have anything in mind so I desided to make a “I’ll see what comes out” painting and it reminded me a bit of a chestnut. Last Saturday when I was at a mall I suddenly noticed that the trees in the parking lot where stuffed with chestnuts (chestnuts again) and beech nuts and was thinking “huh in June”? I recalled that when I was a child I was always looking for nuts in fall and that it just turned summer now. Hence the name. The water refers to the autumnal weather and the thunderstorms we are having here in the Netherlands right now and to how nature seems a bit confused nowadays. But the rings are steady, like planets orbitting the sun, all playing a part in natures circle. If one gets changes it will affect the others.

Description: The Helix Nebula is a large planetary nebula located approximately 695 light years from Earth in Aquarius constellation. It is the nearest bright nebula to our solar system. The nebula’s striking appearance earned it the nickname the Eye of God.

In Loving Memory Of My Grandparents
Painted in memory of Johan Hendrik Karel Petrus “Hendrik ‘Joep'” Pinas (1910–1969) and Maria Clasina ‘Marie’ van de Burgt (1912–2006).
My interpretation of my grandparents in the late 20’s / early 30’s.

Peaceful Escape
My version of my favorite painter Leonid Afremov’s “Valley by the Lake”. It was my first introduction to his work and i immediately fell in love with it. I was so deeply touched by this painting that i just had to paint and experience it myself. It just overwhelms me with a feeling of peace, quiet and beauty whenever i look at it. It became My Peaceful Escape in tough times and inspired me to start painting again.
